- Students will demonstrate reading comprehension by analyzing a realistic fiction text, identifying sentence structures and conjunctions, using context clues to infer vocabulary meaning, sequencing events, and recognizing themes such as problem-solving, cooperation, and community support. Students will analyze a biographical text by identifying key features of a biography (real events, achievements, challenges), acquiring scientific and technological vocabulary, connecting imagination to real-world inventions, and answering comprehension questions, including those involving phrasal verbs. Students will explain cause-and-effect relationships in American historical events, use key vocabulary related to government, independence, and revolution, respond accurately to factual comprehension questions, and recognize the importance of rights, liberty, and collective decision-making. Students will strengthen their grammar foundation by distinguishing between subject, object, and possessive adjectives and pronouns, applying the rules of the simple present tense in affirmative, negative, and interrogative forms, using correct verb endings (-s, -es, -ies), and revising sentences for clarity. Students will advance their grammar and writing skills by using the simple past tense with regular and irregular verbs, expressing ability (can, could), possession (’s), obligation (must, have to, has to), and advice (should), and writing coherent paragraphs that apply grammar rules in meaningful contexts such as vacations, citizenship, and friendship.
